by David Esrati on August 24, 2009

We had a solid turnout for Tom Norwalk of Miami Valley Marketing Group and Roxann Patrick of Designed Solutions Group.

Both speakers brought handy dandy handouts with information about government buyers and their experience with getting a GSA schedule. I’ve scanned them, and OCR’d them and uploaded for the benefit of all VOB108 members.

VOB108 Sit Rep Year end

by William Brownsberger on December 17, 2007

Brothers & Sisters,

First, I like to welcome a new member to VOB108.  It is Jim Silcott, President & CEO of Kenton Trace Technologies.  Jim is a Vietnam Vet and a SDVOB.  Jim’s company has a successful procurement past history with WPAFB and DOD.  I plan to have him address the group early next year at a Teaming Meeting on “Lessons Learned when dealing with the Fed as a SDVOB”.  Welcome Home, Jim!

Second, your 2008 VOB108 dues are due to Bob Leibecke, c/o EC Ruffolo, Inc. 308 Mound Ave, Miamisburg, OH 45342, NLT Jan 10, 2008.  Which is the date of our next Teaming Meeting @ the EMTEC Ctr. at 12:00 Noon.  Guest speaker TBA. You can also pay via web (but PayPal takes a cut)

Third, our last Teaming Meeting was very informative and interesting.  Tammy Tatman and Pam Cooper were our guest speakers.  Tammy from Blue Chip Manufacturing, Columbus, OH.  And Pam from Agility Logistics, Defense and Government Services, Alexandra, VA.  Tammy’s success story concerning the rapid growth of her 8(a) company was very inspiring.  But more importantly how she has partnered with Agility Logistics and how Agility has partnered with her company.  Pam informed us of her company’s dedicated effort to seek out and identify VOB/SDVOB companies that will allow Agility to expand their list of goods and services as a major Prime to DOD.  As part of this effort Agility is hosting a all day

matchmaker event in Columbus next month on Jan 29, 2008.  So, mark your calendar and make the effort to attend this event.  It will only cost you time and travel to Columbus.  Agility will host you for breakfast and lunch.  I have included Pam’s email response below.  If you don’t attend this event, you are missing a great opportunity to grow your biz.

Fourth, our meeting format for 2008 will remain the same as it has been for 2007.  That is, our Teaming meeting will be the second Thursday of each month.  So, the meeting dates for the first three month of 2008 are as follows: Jan 10. Feb 14, and Mar 13, 2008.  All Teaming meetings will be at the EMTEC/PTAC Center, second floor conference room, 3155 Research Blvd, Dayton, 45420, from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM.  The Exec meetings will still be held on the fourth Thursday of each month in the first floor EMTEC conference room at 12:00 Noon with two exceptions.  They are at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

One of those exceptions will occur next week when we’ll meet @ The Next Wave on Thursday, Dec 27th at Noon to 1:00 PM.  Just let David E know if you wish to attend. 937-22-4433

Lastly, I know that this goes against everything that Sam taught you during your service to him, but we need for each of you to volunteer for something to help build VOB108.org stronger tomorrow than it is today.  We are beginning our third year as a “Band of Brothers and Sisters” and have come a long way from the lunch bunch at the Pizza Factory.  The benefits that you get from being a member of VOB108 will be in direct proportion to the work and effort that you invest in it.  You ask, “What can I do?”  My reply is, “What do you see that we can do better or what needs to be done that we are not doing.”  We have started something very special and unique here in Dayton.  Just think what it could be if everyone

would grab hold of the rope, even with just one hand.  Enough said.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

RLTW,

Bill

VOB108 at Fifth Annual Vet Biz Symposium in Elyria

by David Esrati on November 29, 2007

We’re here in force at the Symposium, President Bill Brownsberger, VP David Esrati, Dan Sack, Gary Munoz, Bill Pollard, Pat Suarez and his staff from GSA Proposals are a sponsor of the event- and allowing us to share his table.

Last night at the hotel, we met with other Veterans including Denny McBroom from Telpro Inc. and the NW Ohio SBA rep, John Renner, as well as a Diversity manager for First Energy- and discussed a Statewide network of VOB/SDVOB’s much like the Elite SDVOB organization in California. More to follow on this.

If you happen to be here at the conference- please find one of us, most are wearing our VOB 108 shirts.

I introduced myself to Keynote speaker Mal Mixon, Chairman and CEO of Invacare corporation- (and former Marine) and asked if he might consider helping lobby Columbus to adopt a progressive Vet Biz plan for State purchasing. Unfortunately, Mr. Mixon thinks that this is a partisan political issue, and that his efforts as a Republican wouldn’t be well received in Columbus. If he happens to read this, I’d like to remind him- all Veterans are patriots first, and there are no parties when you serve Uncle Sam.
