VOB member and speaker at Mar meeting in the news

by David Esrati on March 6, 2008

VOB108 member, Rex Alexander was quoted in the Mar 2nd Dayton Daily News concerning the new Human Performance Wing project at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Come hear him speak on the subject at our March teaming meeting:

Contractors seek Human Performance Wing project
The companies competing to be the prime contractor for the Human Performance Wing are to submit their bids and plans to the Army Corps of Engineers’ district office in Louisville, Ky., by Wednesday, March 5. The Corps, which is issuing the contracts and will supervise construction for the Air Force, is to announce the contract award by the end of March.

In addition, dozens of small businesses are to be included in the bids from the potential prime contractors. By law, 20 percent of the total contract amount must be allotted to small businesses to allow them a share of the government’s business.

Rex Alexander, vice president of sales for Ingenuity IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality), which provides indoor air quality and monitoring services for companies and government, is trying to obtain work as a subcontractor for the performance wing, which is to include laboratories, offices and classrooms. The veteran-owned company, with offices in West Chester, got a robust response when it volunteered to round up names of other veteran-owned businesses to submit to the potential prime contractors as subcontractors.

Alexander said he expected to receive 15 to 20 responses, but instead heard from 93 small businesses. They included electrical contractors, information technology providers, training services, audiovisual equipment providers, lawn maintenance firms, and providers of hospital and laboratory equipment. He provided the names to the prime contractor candidates last week.

“The intent is to spread the wealth,” he said.

Working together to secure larger opportunities is one of the prime missions of VOB108. Way to go Rex.
