DDN concerned about wrong things

With all due respect to the Dayton Daily News, on the subject of tax exemptions for military pensions, it is dead wrong. DDN writers are fixated on the $14 million loss that will happen in the short run. This will be erased over several years by the influx of more military retirees who will start businesses, hire people and provide for an expanded tax base. While many of these businesses will deal with government contracts, many businesses will be in the commercial sector as well.

DDN writers are overly concerned that the only beneficiaries will be former high-ranking officers. Within VOB108, a southwest Ohio consortium of veteran-owned small businesses and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, a number of the business owners are retired military, and I believe all of the retirees are enlisted. I further believe that one will find as many retired enlisted as officers among the ranks of contractors.
